The magnificent beaches of Koh Samui are a vacationers dream. Whatever the type of beach you have in mind, you will find it here. From crowded beaches with lots of action, to more remote and romantic beaches, Koh Samui will delight any beach lover. Before you travel to this sunshine wonderland, take a few minutes to decide which one is right for you. This will make determining your desired location easier.
There are six magnificent beaches to choose from when you start trying to decide where to vacation. The most popular beaches are Chaweng and Lamai. Big Buddha and Bophut offer a relaxed environment with plenty of water sports. Both Maenam and Choeng Man are the best places for real peace and quiet.
Chaweng draws in the largest number of people. If you are looking to meet new people, spend time showing off your fabulous beach body, or join the activities of a lively beach, this is the spot for you. Chaweng is beach-party central, with many of the late night clubs and bars are located along its shores. Toward the southern end of the beach shops and restaurants attract people who want to get out and shop.
Nestled in the bay and roughly half the size Chaweng, Lamai is more remote but still very lively. Spa Samui Resorts, the first spa in Thailand, is located to the north. For those who love swimming, Lamai has one of the few spots where you can swim in deep waters all year. If you want a little more excitement, Buddy’s regularly hosts parties. Of course, food and stores are to one end if need a bite or a souvenir.
Named after the large Buddha statue that greets guests, Big Buddha is a major draw. This awe- inspiring statue can be seen on arriving flights. The beach itself is a long, white sand beach where you can relax in a more peaceful environment. Big Buddha is not without activities, with snorkeling and water-skiing being among the most popular activities, but it attracts a more mellow crowd and provides a more romantic beach.
Bophut is a more family friendly, charming beach for those who want to have fun without the swarm of party goers, as its nickname, Fisherman’s Village, implies. Roughly two miles long, this beach Take in a view of the the neighboring islands, or go out on a kayaking or sailing excursion to stay active. There are plenty of more sports bars and good restaurants to rest at the end of a busy day.
Maenam is the site of one of the first luxury resorts on the island, but it is by no means overdeveloped or in any way spoiled. With its natural, yellow sand, crystal clear water, and relative seclusion, you could not ask for a more tranquil or romantic location. This is the place for those who want peace and quiet. The best deals often occur on this beach. It is also ideal for a remote, romantic excursion romping in the sand.
Located away from the main tourist buzz, Choeng Mon is everything you could want for a honeymoon or a quiet respite away from it all. Avoid the crowds and parties going on elsewhere as you enjoy take in the beauty of this beach. This island rounds out the six magnificent beaches.
